Version 22 of nonchalant.nu features fanart of Disney's The Little Mermaid -- my favorite movie. I love Ariel and how she chooses to pursue her dream, no matter what. This beautiful image is copyrighted to Daniela Uhlig and used with permission. The flowery, swirly frame is by Michelle Coleman. Colors used include red and tan, with dashes of green. Fonts used are "Tiranti Solid" (logo) and "Arial"  for text.

The previous version (thumbnail below) featured America Ferrera (currently of Ugly Betty fame), with background paper by Michelle Coleman, Sun by ShabbyPincess and corners by Gina Cabrera.  Fonts used are "Galahad" and "Arial," with the colors of turquoise-blue, brown and gold. Version 21 was implemented on May 22, 2007.

NaNoEdMo (beginning of) Day 11 - Hours Accomplished: 11

So, technically I'm fudging a little, because Brian and I sat down and read the first 3 chapters of my novel, and going through it -- editing, talking about it, going over possible ideas. He claims to like it so far. He's being very kind.

And I have a problem with him leaving. I know he'll be there tomorrow, and the next day. He's not going anywhere. But when it becomes time to say goodbye at the end of the evening, I use all kinds of stalling tactics. It's not good, or honorable, or very flatternig. And I'm trying to figure out how to improve this. What to do with my being okay with us being apart. It's silly, we're just boyfriend and girlfriend. I think maybe it has to do with the fact that I've never had this, or maybe it's because we slipped past some of our "rules" last night, so things don't get out of hand, and really, they didn't, they just... well... anyway, ramble, ramble.

Tonight I get to go to SpeedZone (courtesy of my company), and play mini golf, and race cars, and DDR! Dance Dance Revolution, here I come!

Right now, I'm sitting here at work, staring at the beautiful day outside, with the most deepest cornflower-blue sky that I've ever seen. It's gorgemous! And I sigh, because I'm stuck inside.

And because I feel my life is stagnant right now, I need a little pick-me-up, so here's a meme that's been running around LJs and Blogs. Answer in the Comments, and you don't even have to put your real name if you don't want -- it'll make it more fun to guess who you are!

1. Where did we meet?
2. What was your first impression of me?
3. How long have you known me?
4. When is the last time we saw each other?
5. What's my guilty pleasure?
6. What's one of my favorite things to do outdoors?
7. What's one of my favorite things to do indoors?
8. Do you remember one of the 1st things I said to you?
9. What's my favorite type of music?
10. What is the best feature about me?
11. Am I shy or outgoing?
12. Am I a rebel or do I follow all the rules?
13. Would you consider me an acquaintance, a friend, or a good friend?
14. If you had to label me, what kind of person am I?
15. Have you ever seen me cry?

NaNoEdMo (beginning of) Day 9 - Hours Accomplished: 9.5

That's right. I'm stuck. My novel is bad, so I'm ignoring it right now. I mean, if I have to sit all day Saturday and work on my novel, I will. Just that Monday night I worked 3 hours of overtime, last night I was tired, but Brian did come over. We talked about several things, he brought over the 2nd Lemony Snicket book (as we finished the first one the other night).

I talked about not being happy at my job, and it being hard to find something else right now, and how I would really like to go back to school. UT has this awesome Advertising degree (Master's) that I had been thinking about... but, well, regardless of all the "issues" I would have had (leaving friends and family, money, etc.), I found out that for Fall 2005, the deadline for the application was Jan. 15, 2005. They only accept in the Fall. So I would have to wait until next January, for NEXT Fall. 2006. I don't know if I can wait that long.

I'm just stuck, in many venues of my life, and all I can do is wonder what to do.

NaNoEdMo (beginning of) Day 7 - Hours Accomplished: 9.5

So I have finished the first run through of my my novel, as far as editing goes. But, it is still a slow process, and frankly, I don't know what to do right now. I am stuck, and it's frustrating. I am still not finding my voice, and my tone. The more I read the novel, the more things don't work, on some level or other.

If I get about 2 hours done tonight, I will be pretty much on schedule, though I really wanted to have 10 hours going into today. However, I am going back and having to fix dialogue that I had changed earlier in the week, to a character that has a strong accent. I was reading somewhere, that every character should have a distinctive voice. Even though I personally think I'm good at dialogue, the voice thing is throwing me off. How do I make a distinct accent, or voice, without doing weird things to words, which I know is pretty much a big no-no. And I wonder if it's because I don't know the characters that well. And... maybe they're just 2 dimensional, and that makes me sad.

But I can easily write for other characters, in my short stories, and it not be a problem.

This novel is frustrating me! Argh!!
